We are in the thick of the preparations with many emails and phone calls going between the people involved.
- The plants have left Tharfield Nursery and are on their way to the south island as I write this. This will give them time to acclimatise and put on their best clothing in time for the show.
- We are frantically planning the brochure.
- The builder Lindsay Robinson has started building so it can be like a jigsaw when we set up at the show.
- Exact ground plan has been set up at Elliot's Nursery so we can get the feel of how it will look on the day and make adjustments as necessary.
- When the plants arrive Sandi will be able to fit it altogether.
- Boxes are being ticked off and more lists are being made.
It is amazing the amount of work that goes on behind the senses. Like any garden it is a work of art.
Key People
Tharfield Nursery Ltd
Tharfield Nursery was established in 1963 producing kiwifruit plants for the then-booming industry. In the mid-80s with the slump of the kiwifruit industry Tharfield broadened its product range to include ornamental trees and shrubs and extended its market base to include garden centres and landscapers. The Boylans and Hoogeveens purchased Tharfield in 1997 and under took major changes to develop the company into a specialist nursery. incredible edibles® was born and has gone from strength to strength. We work closely with Plant and Food to bring new plants to the market and are also licensed propagators for Blueberries New Zealand and NZ Berryfruit Propagators.
incredible edibles® are supplied to garden centres throughout the country from our nursery in the Bay of Plenty and from Bayliss/Elliot Nursery in Canterbury. We also have a large garden which is open to gardening groups for tours by appointment. This garden is used to supply plant material for cuttings, seed and to observe how a plant grows and performs. Before a plant can be released for market it must taste good be easy to grow and relatively pest free. This garden was started in 2002 and has developed into quite a forest of edible delights.
