Cape Gooseberry
This herbaceous perennial with soft grey-green velvety heart-shaped leaves is a worthy addition to any kitchen garden or indeed any garden situation. Its delicate yellow, bell-shaped flower has dark purple spots in the flowers throat. Followed by yellow/orange round fruit (enclosed in a papery husk or lantern) The fruit’s skin is waxy and the pulp is juicy with many tiny seeds.
You can eat the fruit fresh from summer into autumn, or use them to decorate your favourite dessert.
Cape Gooseberry are easy to grow (protect from late frosts) in any well drained soil, pinch out the new growth tips, this will ensure it grows into a beautiful bushy plant.

This herbaceous perennial will grow for several years, other than the very frosty areas where it can be grown annually, producing the fruit from summer to autumn. It has many uses, from eating fresh to decorating cheesecakes, pavlovas and gateaux. Use in pies or make jam or jelly. Compliments seafood, when made into a sauce, as it has a beautiful crisp flavour
